Work

Work

Work is an everyday part of my life. Being German I was raised with a strong work ethic. Each and every day I have work to do on the ranch. There is always a water line to repair, a deer feeder that has been knocked over by the Aoudad or wild hogs. Maybe one of the five surveillance cameras needs batteries or a feeder is not functioning. The feeders always need replenishing. And then there is the garden, always work in the garden, either picking or watering or weeding. Brush needs to be cut. Burn piles need to be ignited when the ground is wet and the wind is calm. Mowing and trimming are always waiting. Vehicles need to be serviced. Here on the ranch, there are two pickups, a jeep, a car and a tractor along with numerous power equipment, mowers, weed eaters and chain saws. Water filters and air-conditioning filters need to be changed at proper intervals. Bird feeders, hummingbird feeds, snares, ands traps require daily attention. The sheep are sheared and wormed twice a year. Lambs are butchered. Deer are harvested and the meat is processed here at the ranch, mostly in cool weather. The three houses always need a bit of maintenance or cleaning. I like having work each day and being outside. Nature nourishes me and the work is satisfying. For fun there is fishing, dancing, cooking and loving. Not a bad life.
