Viva Big Bend

Viva Big Bend

Thursday on our way into Alpine, we stopped at the Gage Hotel for one of their famous meals.  After a martini at the bar we dined in the courtyard, sharing a large buffalo steak, visiting with other diners who  were attending the festival.  Drew Kennedy played.  His voice was clear and his songs original.  We then drove to the hotel, checked in and called the Tipsy Taxi who delivered us in short order to the Granada Theater in downtown Alpine and listened to the Josh Abbot band.  From there we walked to the Railroad Blues and heard Mingo Fishtrap.  The Tipsy Taxi drove us safely back to the hotel.  Friday morning we strolled and shopped having a light lunch at Reata and enjoying a short nap.  Our performance was well attended.  I sold some books and Linda sold some CD’s.   We dined Italian at La Trattoria, heard some music and made an early night of it.  Saturday we immersed ourselves in the festival, listening to Phillip Q Morrow, Tessy Lou and the Shotgun Stars, Scrappy Jud Newcomb and the Gary Newcomb Trio.   We then went to Reata to hear Drew Kennedy again and walked back to the Granada to hear the Texas Tornados.  We danced the night away, having a great time.  The Texas Tornados were fabulous and the dancing much fun.  While at first we were confused by the many venues but since many of them were free and within walking distance, we understood the charm of the festival.  Next year we will be there.
