Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Hotel Sofitel in Siem Reap was absolutely beautiful.  The grounds, gardens and food among the best I have enjoyed.  I spent a day touring Anghor Wat and the surrounding palaces and ruins.  The jungle was full of monuments and edifices.  It was amazing.  I rode an elephant through the jungle, pausing to let him eat trees and in the end, purchased a bunch of bananas and fed them to him.  His trunk was snotty.   I rented a tuk tuk for a day.  The driver took me shopping in Siem Reap and waited while I had a great lunch and then delivered me back to the hotel, all for $10.  I spent three days in Siem Reap.  I visited more ruins outside Anghor Wat, including the site where Tomb Raiders was filmed.  The roots of the giant trees twisted over the stone ruins.  The people of Cambodia are poor but serene and friendly.   The country is Buddhist.  I can’t say enough about the food, delicately spiced with herbs – lemon grass, ginger and amok.
