Port Aransas

Port Aransas

Last weekend I went with my daughter and family and especially my grandson Theiss, rhymes with nice and is a family name, to Port Aransas, a gulf resort on Mustang Island in south Texas. Theiss is four and this was his first visit to the ocean and to the beach. He loved it. We played in the surf, built sand castles and enjoyed a lot of fresh seafood. We visited the tourist shop where he walked through a huge shark replica. A man with parrots took a picture of him holding a parrot on each arm. We went on a boat tour of the bay and saw dolphins and their babies. The boat’s mate threw out a seine as we dredged the bottom and netted tiny sea horses, crabs, shrimp and other species. He held them without fear. The captain even allowed him to drive the boat. We survived. We enjoyed gelato, salt water taffy and even did some of our own cooking in the lovely house only a block from the beach. It was wonderful to view the beach through the eyes of a child and experience his joy. I heartily recommend a trip to the beach with a child.
