Porcupine problem

Porcupine problem

I thought I had the porcupine problem solved but when I left my bedroom deck to descend into the kitchen at 4:30 this morning I almost fell over a huge porcupine between the steps and the back door.  He slowly waddled away, his prickles alert for a touch.  I didn’t take time to shoot him/her.  I am averse to killing anything.  Both of the live traps are baited for coons but none had been trapped.  I either have to become a killer or succumb to sharing my universe with all the critters that live on the ranch.  Who knows what will show up next.  I have had bobcats sniffing my tennis shoes on the front porch, a wild hog in the yard and possums and armadillos.  The only thing the deer proof fence keeps out are deer. Creatures are given claws to crawl.  Fences don’t stop them.  I’ve even seen an armadillo crossing the creek.  He/she just entered the water and walked along the bottom until it came to the other side.  How amazing.   Skunks I steer clear.  What a life.
