Elephant Ride in Thailand

Elephant Ride in Thailand

I experienced a great trip to southeast Asia. I spent time in India and visited the Taj Mahal. This picture is taken in Phuket, Thailand. The weather was hot. There are only two seasons that close to the Equator, rainy and dry. I visited a rubber plantation where I was shown how the rubber/latex is extracted from the tree. Once it is collected, a white sticky mass, it is then mixed with formic acid and put in a tray where it becomes sticky. Then it is rolled out with a rolling pin and hung in sheets to dry. The sheets are then sold by the kilo. A good price is $5 to $6 a kilo. I also visited a cashew nut factory. The cashew nut is formed at the bottom of an apple like fruit and opened by hand. The men opening the nut receive about $5 per day for their work. I tasted every flavor of cashew nut imaginable from chili to honey to butter to sesame to chocolate and others. I was given a small glass of cashew nut juice, green and foamy. It did not taste good. From Thailand I traveled to Malaysia. More on Malaysia on my next blog.
