Alpine, Texas

I’ve just returned from a book signing and speech on travel and Cuba in Alpine, Texas, a small college town located in west Texas near Big Bend National Park.  The talk was in conjunction with the Texas Music Festival entitled Viva Big Bend.  The festival was well attended, featuring Texas artists at venues in Alpine and Marfa.  My friend Linda Koehl, singer/songwriter accompanied me and performed some of her songs that take a look at aspects of life.  While there we met people from all over Texas as well as from countries all over the world.   There were free venues and paid venues all day and all night.  The music was fabulous and the neatest thing of all was that there was a service called “The Tipsy Taxi,” furnished by an enterprising student at Sul Ross State University.  For $5 per person he would pick you up and take you to the location of choice.  One phone call and he returned us to the hotel.  It was much cheaper than a citation for drunk driving.
